rebuttals....

"rebUt rEbuT.. oh, butt... where is my butt"

1. It establishes critical thinking.
♥ You get to think out of the box, exercise those brain cells, and develop your analytical skills.

-It doesn't make you think critically, we have the power of the internet to find sources, there are full text arguments and rebuttals in the internet, debaters will rely more on their written information rather than to think critically to rebut or argue, it wouldn't be a great debate, it would be just a battle of speeches which is reading from a manuscript, and what I'm typing now might be one, but its not :P hehe

2. It boosts up your confidence.

♥ As you debate more, you get used to talking in front many people and you gain more self-confidence.

-It depends on the person who is speaking, on their perception about public speaking, it is the opposite when you are losing the debate, self-confidence is no longer an aspect. There are people
who loses there self-confidence when they are in such shameful situations especially when he/she is not good at public speaking.

3. It develops reasoning skills.

♥ You defend your side and you give out your point of views about the topic, you also develop logical reasoning skills and improve on your creativeness in pointing out ideas.

-You won't develop the reasoning skills when you don't know what to say or when you don't have the knowledge about the topic, you wont be able to defend your side. Point of views, logical reasons, and creativeness in pointing out ideas wont be good because you don't have sufficient or no proper knowledge of the topic, so it will be hard to develop reasoning skills when your actually losing a debate.

4. It develops speaking skills.

♥ You express your thoughts through giving a short speech. It improves your technique in speech delivery to make it sound rhetoric and captivating as you progress on debating.

-It is not always that you develop speaking skills when you debate.
How about those people who don't even have experiences in debate
and those who are very shy people. Because of this shyness, they won't be able to develop anything, this will hinder them from being a good speaker.

5. It makes you feel that you are right.

♥ You believe that the side in which your arguing on is the right one.

-This is perfectly not true, its just a feeling to be right, having this feeling wont be enough to win you a debate when u lack the confidence, speaking skills and proper knowledge of the topic. Therefore it is only going to make you feel that you are losing and make you feel that you are wrong due to lack of experience.

6. It brings out the best in you.

♥ Debate is a competition. Therefore, there is always a winner and a loser. You do your best, not because you want to win but because you do not want to lose.

-It doesn't bring out the best in you, there will be incompetence, nervousness, lack of self confidence that will hinder you from bringing out the best in you, no one is perfect, this is totally untrue in debate when you are definitely losing, it will only bring out the worst in you.

7. It is F.U.N. (Factual, Unadulterated and Natural, and the word itself, Fun)

♥ It is factual, everything we debate about are based on facts. Unadulterated,it does not make a topic anything less to ponder, it is the opposite, and Natural, people argue naturally. Fun, you get to enjoy arguing with the opposition especially when you feel that you are winning the debate. hehe

-Debate doesn't always talk about facts, debaters have the right to give false information like in statistics, like "In 2004, there are about 100,000 deaths in car accidents", statements like these might not be facts but false information, and opinions are common in debate. Debate is adulterated, there are topics or motions that are adulterated like, sex education, legalizing prostitution in the Philippines, allowing teenagers to have sex or not... These topics handle adulterated statements. Debate is not natural, some are forced to debate or just debate to have money or be recognized, there are only a few natural debaters, most of them just debate to have a career, and lastly, Debate is not Fun because in debate you try to kill through words, it would be fun if you think like a murderer and that you're killing people. it would also not be fun if your losing the debate.
